How to present to my daughter the idea that someone wants to gift us with an unconditional income so mommy doesn't have to work and can instead be home to take care of us. That's seriously how it was put to me: 'so you don't have to worry about complete lack of money'. People who work in the school system want to help us get SSDI. This will also entitle (verify her right) my daughter to live and learn her own way. So how do we accept the label "disabled"? I'm a freakin' genius and you're welcome
Me: "You know how in movies things get really intense as a ship or machine is about to explode and kill everyone because it's self destruct mechanism has been activated? People rush like crazy to turn it off/disable it? Well, "disabled" means that the conditioning to conform, be what society thinks you should be (cause you to self destruct) has been shut off/disabled."
She's cool with it.
