I got to reflecting on the yucky feeling I got when people would ask; "What are your self care practices?". I felt put on the spot, sinking feelings of insecurity because I had no answer. There was a dark spot there. Now it occurs to me that I do, in fact have an answer; "What isn't?". Our bodies, our egos are vehicles. When we're in our vehicles, we are constantly taking care of them and taking care with how we navigate them, whether or not we're spilling our coffee in them, tracking mud in, etc. "Self care" is doing the same for our ego and body. It's constant and as consistent as we make it. We can navigate our thoughts, feelings and emotions. We navigate our physical environment. We choose spiritual and intellectual fuel for them. We avoid physical dangers and discomforts. If we're breathing, we're self caring. Thus, the question is not "What are your self care practices?". The question is "how are our self care practices?". It is the question we get on the street in passing so unconsciously, usually;
"Hi! How ya doing?"
